Culture Values Assessment

The transformation to becoming a Conscious Business is challenging to anyone who has grown up within traditional business education and practice, where  often  words like “tough” “logical” and “ruthless” are common and words like “love”, “humanistic”, and “kind” are rare.

A conscious business transformation can be challenging to design and to manage.  Creating a program that is values-centred and people-centred requires that you actually ask your people for their views; and really listen to what they have to say.  And, as for measuring the consciousness of an organisation or a leader … well, most organisations’ current measurement tools (ratios, scorecards, and 360 instruments) don’t even try to do the job.

Richard Barrett set out to create that missing link when he designed the first of the Culture Transformation Tools, published in his book Liberating the Corporate Soul (Butterworth Heinemann, 1988)

The basic principles behind the Culture Transformation Tools are referred to by Richard Barrett as “The three Mantras.”  Each has its related implications:

Mantra 1:  Cultural Capital is the new frontier of competitive advantage
Implication: Who you are and what your organization stands for is vitally important  (Focus on vision, mission and values)

Mantra 2: The culture of an organisation is a reflection of leadership consciousness
Implication: Organisational transformation begins with the personal transformation of leaders (Begin with Self-leadership)

Mantra 3: Measurement matters.  If you can measure consciousness, you can manage it.
Implication: You can make the evolution of consciousness, conscious. (Measure and map the values)
